After Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that Union home minister Amit Shah had summoned 150 district magistrates nationwide following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election voting, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar responded sharply on Monday, June 3, stating that "it is not right to spread a rumour and doubt everyone."

This is what he had to say

Is it possible for someone to sway all of the district magistrates and returning officers? Please identify the perpetrator. The offender will face consequences from us. A day before the ballots for the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 were counted, Rajiv Kumar stated at a press conference, "It is not proper that you disseminate a rumour and distrust everyone."

Prior to the vote count, Rajiv Kumar also agreed to the demands made by delegations from many parties: "Every concern brought forth by multi-party delegates has been taken up. They insisted that the movements of the control units be observed by CCTV cameras. That will be completed, "said CEC Kumar. Leaders of the opposition's INDIA coalition met with the Election Commission's whole bench on Sunday, pleading with them to make sure that all rules are adhered to on June 4.

Elections 2024 and the Facts

Prior to the planned vote counting on June 4, the Election Commission of India had requested factual facts and data from Jairam Ramesh for his public declaration via a post on his social media profile, in which he claimed that Amit Shah had made calls to 150 direct messages.

By June 2 evening, the poll body had requested a response from Jairam Ramesh in order to take the necessary further measures.  "The process of counting votes is a sacred duty cast upon every RO," the Election Commission wrote in a letter to Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh. "Such public statements by a senior, responsible, and experienced leader tend to create an element of doubt and thus deserve to be addressed in the larger public interest."
Ramesh on EC

"EC had requested data and information from Jairam Ramesh about 150 DMs whom Amit Shah had affected, as alleged by Mr. Ramesh and which he thinks to be accurate, and had so made these charges, even though no DM has reported any undue influence," the letter continued. Jairam Ramesh had said earlier on Saturday that the "outgoing Home Minister has been ringing up DMs and collectors." He referred to it as "BJP desperation" and stated that such intimidation should not put authorities under duress.
He has spoken with 150 of them thus far. This is obvious intimidation at its most flagrant, demonstrating the desperation of the BJP. To be clear, the people's will will win out, and on June 4th, the INDIA Janbandhan will triumph and Mr. Modi, Mr. Shah, and the BJP will be forced to resign. Officers are required to respect the Constitution and should not be subjected to coercion. "They are being observed," stated Jairam Ramesh.
The BJP is expected to retake power on June 4 if the exit poll findings hold true, and Narendra Modi would become the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to win three consecutive terms in the Lok Sabha elections. With PM Modi spearheading the BJP's election campaign with rallies and roadshows around the nation, the exit polls projected a "Modi 3.0."
