Bihar is grappling with an unexpected crisis as unseasonal rains have unleashed widespread destruction across its agricultural heartlands. Farmers, caught off guard by the relentless downpours, are now facing devastating crop losses, with fields of rice, maize, and pulses submerged, threatening their livelihoods and the state’s food security.

The weather has been bad in Bihar for the last few days. During this time, rain and hailstorms are being seen. This unseasonal rain has become a disaster for the farmers. Due to this, crops have been damaged on a large scale. Even today, an alert of rain with thunder and lightning has been issued in many districts. Also, the possibility of strong winds has also been expressed.
Alert issued at these places in Bihar
According to the Patna Meteorological Center, an alert has been issued for lightning, thunder and storm with a speed of 40 to 60 km per hour in many areas of Bihar till 11:40 am today. These include Jokihat, Kochadhamin, Palasi, Bahadurganj, Tedhagachh, Dighalbank, Amour, Baisa, Kishanganj, Araria, Pothia, Sikti and Thakurganj.

According to IMD, the maximum temperature in Bihar today can be between 32 to 38 degrees. The minimum temperature can be recorded between 22 to 26 degrees Celsius. There is no possibility of any major change in the maximum temperature in most parts of Bihar during the next five days. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in Bihar from 14 to 18 April. On April 14, there is an alert of thunder and lightning in the southern and north-eastern parts of the state. Also, strong winds can blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour. On April 15 and 16, a warning has been issued for lightning, thunder and strong winds in the north-eastern and south-eastern parts of Bihar. During this time, the speed of the winds can be up to 30 to 40 km per hour.
Chirag Paswan demanded compensation for the farmers
Union Minister Chirag Paswan urged the Bihar government to declare the 'large-scale' crop damage caused by lightning, hailstorm and unseasonal rains as a 'state disaster'. He has also demanded 'adequate' compensation for the affected farmers in several districts. Chirag Paswan has written a letter to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In which he said that "the unseasonal rain and hailstorm in the last two days has caused considerable damage to wheat and other crops in many districts of the state, causing distress to farmers. This incident should be declared a state disaster and a survey should be conducted to assess the damage to the crops.''
