UP News: Ayodhya’s security has been ramped up following a recent audio threat allegedly from Canada-based Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, targeting the Ram temple on November 16 and 17. Senior police officials confirmed the circulation of the audio clip on social media, where Pannun, head of the US-based organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), threatens violence in Ayodhya. SFJ, known for advocating Punjab’s secession as Khalistan, has previously issued similar threats in India.

Ayodhya Fortified to Counter Potential Attacks

Inspector General (IG) of Ayodhya Range, Praveen Kumar, emphasized that the temple town is heavily fortified, with police and paramilitary forces on high alert to counter any potential terrorist activities. “Ayodhya is already fortified, and police and paramilitary forces here are prepared to counter any terror threat round the clock,” Kumar stated. Authorities are also verifying the authenticity of Pannun's audio message.

Kartik Parikrama Mela Under Enhanced Surveillance

Security has been increased for the ongoing Kartik Parikrama Mela, scheduled to conclude on November 15. A senior police officer assured that rigorous security measures are in place for the festival, noting that Ayodhya has received similar threats from Khalistani elements and other terrorist organizations in the past. The official cited previous threats where law enforcement successfully prevented potential attacks.

Prior Threats and Arrests by Anti-Terror Squad

In January, UP Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested three suspects with alleged Khalistani connections who were reportedly conducting reconnaissance in Ayodhya days before the consecration of the Shri Ram Janambhoomi temple. The suspects, identified as Shankar Dussad (alias Shankar Jajod), Ajit Kumar Sharma, and Pradeep Puniya, are Rajasthan residents.

Following these arrests, an audio recording purportedly from Pannun surfaced, specifically addressing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, warning that “the Ram temple consecration won’t save him.” The police and intelligence agencies are on alert for any unusual activities, especially in the days leading up to and following the planned date of the Ram temple ceremony.
