The strongest ever backlash has come against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, pertaining to the administration of waqf properties across the nation. On Saturday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIIMPB) declared that they would initiate an agitation across the nation until the bill is withdrawn. The Board affirms that this movement will be carried out in a totally peaceful and democratic way and all social and religious organizations will participate in this campaign.

Announcement of the first phase of the movement

The initial phase of the movement will be witnessed under the motto 'Save Waqf, Save Constitution', which will be from Friday 1 to the next Friday. Different activities will be carried out, with the primary aim being to conduct roundtable discussions with fellow citizens. The AIIMPB states that the aim of such gatherings is to refute misinformation and false propaganda being circulated by the government and communal forces.

Protest starts in Delhi

The campaign will start with a big public rally at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi, and then mass protest rallies will be organized in other big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Patna, Ranchi, Lucknow, etc. The campaign will go on until Eid al-Adha in June, and then the next phase will be determined.

AIIMPB's issues regarding the Bill

AIIMPB asserts that they will appeal to the Supreme Court against this bill, and are also prepared to protest against the bill throughout the globe. According to him, this bill is against the Muslim community and is held against the spirit of the Constitution. Additionally, the board has also requested all Muslims, particularly the youth, to remain calm and not indulge in any sort of emotional response, so that communal forces do not get any opportunity.

Expectation of justice to the Constitution and Waqf institutions

AIIMPB has made it amply clear in its statement that this movement is a struggle, which will be undertaken to save the constitution and Waqf institutions. The board asserts that they won't step back from any act of sacrifice in this regard and will struggle for justice at each step. Meanwhile, they are also seeking the support of other citizens throughout the country, so that this movement gains more power and make it a successful movement.

Parliament's support and Opposition's response to the Bill

This bill has been passed in both the Houses of Parliament. In the Lok Sabha, 288 members were in favor of the Bill whereas 232 members voted against it. The Rajya Sabha too passed the bill with 128 votes. Yet, opposition parties have labeled it 'anti-Muslim' and 'against the Constitution'. According to the government, this bill is a historic measure for the good of minorities and society.
