Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh Police launched an operation against Maoist strongholds in South Bastar jungles late on Wednesday night by deploying over 3,000 personnel. According to the available intelligence, it has a good prescience of armed rebels and the units participating include District Reserve Guard and the CoBRA elite battalions. The effort depicts unity expressed against insurgency.

Intense gun fights erupt

Gunfire erupted on Thursday morning around 9 AM as security forces exchanged fierce firefights with Maoists that persisted all day long. The reports confirmed that 12 Maoists were killed and combing operations are still in progress, and it is thought that more may be found. The police report showed no casualties to them, therefore pointing out that their tactical approach during the battle was effective.

Neutralize Threats, Recover Cache

In the gun battle between security forces and Maoists at Bijapur, it has not only neutralized Maoist threats but also recovered weapons and explosives from the encounter site. The gun battle is part of the broader strategy to put an end to the Naxalism in Chhattisgarh as 26 suspected Maoists were killed in this month alone. The action marks a high degree of seriousness on this century-old issue.

One Year of Operation Against Naxalism

The operations, which are underway, form a continuum of successful operations during the last few months. In 2024, as many as 219 Maoists have been reported killed. The government has promised an end to Naxalism by March 2026, and such operations represent an intensified thrust at re-taking control over the insurgency-hit regions so that peace may be restored to the communities within Chhattisgarh.
