Bihar: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has vowed Union Home Minister Amit Shah that he would never leave the BJP again, having done it twice before "in error". The promise is being made at a crucial moment when assembly polls are just on the horizon. Kumar's promise was given during a combined function with Shah in Patna, Bihar, in which they launched a number of projects of the Centre as well as of the state. Shah, known to think well ahead, predicted a complete victory in Bihar and said that the outcome would have profound consequences.
A Changed stance
Kumar, a longtime BJP ally since the mid-90s, defected from the party in 2014 and once again in 2022. He, however, returned to the NDA fold ahead of last year's Lok Sabha elections. In his speech, Kumar blamed his previous break-ups with the BJP on "some people in my own party" but promised never to commit the same blunder.
A secular credentials
Though greeted with shouts of "Jai Shri Ram" during the function, Kumar, who carries himself as a secularist on merit, took it in stride. He underscored the progress Bihar has made under the JD(U)-BJP coalition compared to the earlier RJD-Congress government.
