In a fiery speech in Wayanad, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the central government of systematically eroding the Constitution and democracy, while also addressing local concerns like landslides, human-animal conflicts, and tribal welfare.

Priyanka Gandhi's blistering attack on Modi govt

Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led central government, alleging that it is actively working to weaken India's democratic institutions and the Constitution. Speaking at a booth level leaders' meeting in Mananthavady, she accused the BJP of attempting to dismantle the very foundations of Indian democracy.

"The country is going through a time where the government at the Centre is doing everything to weaken the Constitution and democracy,"she declared, drawing loud applause from party workers.

Landslide victims 'forgotten', government apathy alleged
Shifting focus to local issues, Priyanka pointed out the dire conditions of families affected by the devastating landslides in Wayanad. She criticized the central government for its slow response in providing adequate compensation and rehabilitation.

"Till today, victims of the landslides are struggling for proper housing and compensation. It was only because of our efforts in the Lok Sabha that the Centre at least declared the Wayanad landslides as a ‘disaster of severe nature,' "she said, expressing hope that additional funds would be sanctioned for rehabilitation.

Human-animal conflict: A ticking time bomb in Wayana

Highlighting the growing menace of wild animal attacks in the region, Priyanka emphasized that the issue is not just about loss of lives but also livelihoods. "The last time I was here, the district administration made it clear that more funds are needed to mitigate human-animal conflicts. People need safety. Farmers are losing their crops, and families are living in fear," she stated.

She assured residents that she would work closely with the authorities to secure funds and implement effective solutions. “Together, we will find ways to tackle this crisis,” she promised.

Developmental challenges: Tribals, healthcare, tourism in focus

Priyanka Gandhi also listed other critical issues plaguing Wayanad, including:
1. Tribal welfare: Ensuring land rights and better living conditions for tribal communities.
2. Healthcare crisis: Pushing for the establishment of a medical college in Mananthavady.
3. Night travel restrictions: Advocating for policy changes to ease restrictions that impact local businesses and commuters.

4. Tourism revival: Boosting tourism to enhance employment opportunities in the district.

She assured people that she would work tirelessly to resolve these challenges and bring development to Wayanad.

'Not just during elections': Priyanka’s message to party workers

Acknowledging the efforts of Congress booth-level leaders in securing her victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, Priyanka urged them to stay engaged with the public beyond election campaigns. "You must be there for the people every single day, not just when elections are near,"she emphasized, signaling the need for long-term grassroots engagement.

She is scheduled to hold meetings with booth-level leaders in: Sulthan Bathery, Kalpetta, Eranad, Thiruvambadi, Wandoor, Nilambur Additionally, she will visit families of victims affected by wild animal attacks and meet the local community leaders.
