On January 25, 2025, SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 23 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California. The launch occurred early Friday morning, creating a spectacular visual display in the skies over Southern California.

Space jellyfish

Observers across regions including Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and parts of Los Angeles counties witnessed the event. The rocket's ascent produced a luminous "twilight effect," making it appear almost like a jellyfish in the sky—a phenomenon often referred to as a "space jellyfish."

SpaceX's drone ship

This mission marked the 23rd flight for the Falcon 9's first-stage booster, which successfully landed on SpaceX's drone ship, "Of Course I Still Love You," stationed in the Pacific Ocean. The deployed Starlink satellites are part of SpaceX's ongoing effort to expand its global satellite internet network, aiming to provide high-speed internet access to underserved and remote areas worldwide.

Enhance global connectivity

The timing of the launch, occurring shortly after sunset, contributed to the striking visual spectacle. Such launches often create illuminated plumes visible for miles, as the rocket's exhaust reflects sunlight against the darkening sky. This event is part of SpaceX's broader initiative to enhance global connectivity through its Starlink satellite constellation, which continues to grow with each successful launch
