Speaking alongside Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin emphasized that any ceasefire must lead to a lasting peace and address the root causes of the ongoing conflict." We agree to a ceasefire, but it must be a step toward a lasting peace, not just a temporary halt in conflict," Putin said.

Skepticism over ceasefire viability

Putin questioned the feasibility of the ceasefire, raising enterprises over recent Ukrainian military conduct in Russia’s Kursk region. Zelenskyy accuses Russia of stalling

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy blamed Russia’s lack of a" meaningful" response, suggesting that Moscow’s vacillation indicates its intent to protract the war. Putin, still, remained firm that accommodations with the US were necessary before finishing any agreement. He suggested at a possible phone call with former US President Donald Trump, suggesting politic engagement to clarify the ceasefire terms. " We support ending this conflict peacefully, but crucial issues must be addressed before we do," Putin concluded. With both Kyiv and Moscow holding different interpretations of the ceasefire, the success of US agreement sweats remains uncertain.
