Ukraine’s Zelenskyy seeks PM Modi’s mediation for peace with Russia, calls for action beyond words
Addressing his “Victory Plan,” Zelenskyy clarified that it’s a long-term strategy aimed at securing peace through NATO support.
World News: In a recent exclusive interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential to help resolve the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Highlighting India’s diplomatic strength, Zelenskyy stated, “PM Modi can influence the end of the Ukraine war. This is the huge value of him in any conflict. This is the huge value of India.” The Ukrainian President hinted at India as a potential venue for peace negotiations, emphasizing that any dialogue should adhere to Ukraine’s peace summit framework, as the war continues on its soil.
Challenges for Ukraine Amid US Elections and Russian Pressure
Facing increasing Russian advances in the Donbas region and the looming uncertainty of US presidential elections, Ukraine is under mounting pressure. With the possibility of diminished American support if Donald Trump is re-elected, Zelenskyy expressed concerns over Kyiv’s reliance on Washington’s military aid. This, along with restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range American weapons, poses a formidable challenge to its defense. As winter approaches, Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure further darken the outlook, marking a third consecutive harsh winter for the Ukrainian people. “We are step-by-step strengthening our energy systems and aren’t just going to allow Russia to kill our people,” Zelenskyy affirmed.
Victory Plan and NATO: Strengthening Ukraine’s Future
Addressing his “Victory Plan,” Zelenskyy clarified that it’s a long-term strategy aimed at securing peace through NATO support. “We are not asking for quick NATO membership…What we are asking for is an invitation to NATO so that in the future nobody can change their opinion,” he explained. He further criticized the recent BRICS summit, where, he said, “Putin wants to divide the world into so-called West-plus and BRICS-plus,” calling the summit’s proposals a failure.
Zelenskyy also urged Modi to use his influence over Putin to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children deported to Russia. “Let PM Modi bring back at least 1,000 Ukrainian children,” he appealed, stressing the importance of decisive action to aid Ukraine’s humanitarian needs.
