World News: Donald Trump appealed the case to the Supreme Court to further delay the sentencing of his New York hush money case
World News: Trump pleads to Supreme court to Halt sentencing with only hours to be sentenced by a New York judge on several felony counts related to fraudulent business records for which he has been convicted on 34 related counts, the U.S. Supreme Court blocks and President-elect Donald Trump asked late Tuesday that the federal high court block his impending criminal sentencing in his hush-money case, while his legal team filed an emergency request at midnight with the US Supreme Court
Legal strategy
Presidential lawyers sued the president of the United States to stop the sentencing, claiming "grave injustice" and damage to the president's office. They also made a related broader legal argument: The Supreme Court has ruled that the president has broad immunity from criminal prosecution. To them, this conviction is to shelter some of the evidence in the hush money case as the trial judge, Juan M. Merchan, dismissed the claim and mentioned no jail time, fines, or probation will be awarded
Trump’s plea
This led to Trump responding with his plea, which will see the DA's office removing their objections by Thursday against the appeal. According to Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung, the case should be dismissed in its entirety, and his lawyers, who are led by John Sauer, will continue to fight to have a complete overthrow of the verdict.Sauer had also represented Trump in another election interference case and said that the immunity extended to the president at the time of this trial when brought a federal prosecution.
