Death penalty sword is hanging on three Indians in Indonesia. The three are charged with bringing drugs into Indonesia in July 2024. The trial is ongoing, but based on Indonesian law, the three are eligible to be sentenced to death. The three Indians are said to have brought drugs into Indonesia via a Singapore-flagged plane.

Three are accused of smuggling 106 kg of crystal meth

The three are Raju Muthukumaran (38), Selvadurai Dinakaran (34) and Govindasamy Vimalkandan (45). All three of the accused are from Tamil Nadu. All three were employed in singapore's shipping sector. The three are accused of smuggling 106 kg of crystal meth drug into Indonesia illegally. Indonesian security personnel had impounded the plane in Pongkar locality of Karikum district.

Captain's statement is significant

Singapore is only one hour from the location where the plane was seized. Now the pilot of the plane will have to give evidence in this case, but the pilot of the plane did not come to the court. He came to the hearing via zoom call and because of this he was unable to give evidence. Here, the evidence of the captain of the flight is extremely crucial and only she can establish the innocence of the three Indians.

Demand for the death penalty

Indonesian prosecutors have asked for the death penalty for the three Indians. An Indian attorney is defending the three Indians. The defense asserts that it is impossible to place such a huge amount of drugs on the ship without the approval of the captain. Further, the captain is accountable for everything on the ship. The quantum of punishment in the case will probably be handed down on April 15.
