Strong earthquake with magnitude 6.3 shakes Mexico

According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 occurred early on Sunday morning close to the Mexican coast of Chiapas. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 75 km (46.6 mi).

Although there had been no immediate indications of damage, Mexico's national civil protection agency said on social media that it was keeping an eye on the situation.

Guatemala reports

The disaster service CONRED in Guatemala reported structural damage in the departments of Quetzaltenango and San Marcos, close to the country's border with Mexico, including a landslide that partially blocked a road. The earthquake was felt in the country's capital, Guatemala City.

The Mexican military and the United States Tsunami Warning System both state that there is no chance of a subsequent tsunami.
