The election for the post of new prime minister will be held in Pakistan today. Pakistan's Parliament session National Assembly will start at 11:30 am Indian time. Where the process of selecting PM will be completed. Joint candidate of PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Shahbaz has submitted his nomination, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Omar Ayub Khan has also filed his nomination papers.

There is a strong possibility that Shahbaz Sharif will be elected the 33rd Prime Minister. After voting in the National Assembly on Sunday, the successful candidate will be administered the oath of office at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the presidential residence. In the results of general elections of Pakistan, no party got absolute majority.

PML-N and PPP's PM candidate Shahbaz Sharif

Leaders of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the highest number of seats as independent candidates. After this, Nawaz Sharif's party PML-N and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's PPP formed an alliance to gain majority. This alliance declared Nawaz's younger brother and former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as the PM candidate. PML-N president Shehbaz is the younger brother of former three-time Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.

Shahbaz Sharif's track record

During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif worked to build his image as an efficient administrator by implementing many big development projects. In his short tenure of 16 months as the PM of Pakistan in the year 2022, he did not have any special achievement to his name. During his rule, unstable economy and increasing threat of terrorism remained as big challenges as ever.

Imran's party PTI is the biggest party

Supporters of Imran's party PTI had won the maximum number of seats in Pakistan elections. Independent candidates associated with PTI had won 97 out of 265 seats. Nawaz Sharif's party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) was at second place. 75 candidates of PML-N emerged victorious. Whereas PPP remained at third position with 54 seats. The remaining seats went to others. In such a situation, after a long ongoing political tussle, Pakistan is going to get its 33rd Prime Minister. Last Friday, PML-N and PPP candidates were elected with an overwhelming majority for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. After which the election of Shahbaz Sharif as Prime Minister is considered almost certain.
