It was an event in the history of America, characterized by pomp and solemnity. During the 60th Presidential Inauguration, Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office to Donald Trump. Global attention was riveted on the event, and the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, congratulated him warmly.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm wishes to Trump via X (formerly Twitter). "Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! Modi’s message reflected optimism for strengthened U.S.-India relations under Trump’s leadership.

India represented by external affairs minister

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India during the inaugural ceremonies as a special envoy on behalf of Prime Minister Modi. Jaishankar shared his emotions on X, saying, "Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington DC." He also carried a letter to the President of America from Modi, underlining the strategic alliance between the two countries.

Trump vows a 'Golden Age of America'

Minutes after swearing in, Trump gave a stirring inaugural speech, promising to "usher in a new era of American greatness". Saying that "the golden age of America begins right now," Trump shared a vision for a proud, prosperous and free nation. He also mentioned surviving attempted assassination, casting his survival in terms of divine intervention, and reaffirming commitment to "Make America Great Again."
