World News: The conflict in the Middle East intensified dramatically on Tuesday night when Iran unleashed a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel. This act of aggression comes as retaliation for the recent killings of Hezbollah militant leaders and Israeli strikes in Lebanon. The missile attacks triggered alarm systems throughout Israel, prompting civilians to seek shelter and leading the military to activate its air defense systems.

Israel’s response and Iran’s threats

In the wake of the missile strikes, Israel pledged to retaliate, asserting it would respond at the “time and place of its choosing.” However, Iranian officials have issued stark warnings of “crushing attacks” on Israel should it choose to retaliate, raising global fears of an imminent escalation toward World War III.

Guy Nir, spokesperson for the Israeli embassy in India, stated that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are currently assessing the situation and preparing an appropriate response to Tehran. He cautioned that any plans by Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to initiate a full-scale war would be a “grave mistake” for Iran. Nir also warned other nations contemplating joining Iran's cause against Israel that they would face devastating consequences as well.

US support for Israel amid rising tensions

The United States, a long-time ally of Israel, has ordered military assistance to bolster the country's defenses against the Iranian missile threat. The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are closely monitoring developments in the region. "President Biden directed the U.S. military to assist Israel in its defense and intercept missiles targeting the nation," stated the White House.

Fears of global conflict

Social media has erupted with discussions around the possibility of World War III, with hashtags trending as public concern mounts. Users have expressed their apprehension, highlighting the perceived failures of Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. Comments on platforms like X reflect the anxiety surrounding the geopolitical landscape, with one user noting, "If #Iran thinks it can defeat Israel with one missile attack, it is mistaken."
