Israeli forces strike Hamas command center, eliminate senior official Rawhi Mushtaha
According to the Israeli military's statement, Mushtaha was a significant figure within Hamas and played a pivotal role in its military strategies.
World News: The Israeli military confirmed Thursday that a targeted airstrike three months ago resulted in the elimination of Rawhi Mushtaha, the head of Hamas in Gaza, along with two senior security officials. The strike targeted an underground command and control center in northern Gaza, where Mushtaha and commanders Sameh al-Siraj and Sami Oudeh were reportedly taking refuge.
According to the Israeli military's statement, Mushtaha was a significant figure within Hamas and played a pivotal role in its military strategies. "Mushtaha was one of Hamas' most senior operatives and had a direct impact on decisions relating to Hamas' force deployment," the statement read. The airstrike also eliminated Sameh al-Siraj, who held the security portfolio within Hamas's political bureau. Both al-Siraj and Sami Oudeh were closely involved in key security operations.
Hamas situation
Mushtaha's death is seen as a significant blow to Hamas, particularly due to his strong association with Yahya Sinwar, the top Hamas leader. Sinwar is believed to have helped orchestrate the October 7 attack on Israel that escalated the ongoing conflict. Despite Mushtaha's elimination, Sinwar is thought to remain alive and in hiding within Gaza, as Israeli forces continue their operations.
