There were widespread anti-hijab protests in Iran in 2022. On Friday, people took to the streets to vote in the parliamentary elections in the country. However, voters did not show any interest in the election process. Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has made a special appeal to the Iranian people. He was one of the first people to vote. Through this voting, members of the country's Assembly of Experts will also be elected.

More on the mishap

In the event of Khamenei's absence from the post or death, it will be the responsibility of the Assembly of Experts to choose the new supreme leader. Considering Khamenei's age, the responsibility of the Assembly of Experts has become very important. Iran's Supreme Leader voted in front of journalists. Khamenei asked people to vote in the elections as soon as possible. He said that both the friendly and enemy countries of Iran are keeping their eyes on the elections. 15,000 candidates are in the fray for membership in the 290-member Parliament of Iran. The election results are expected by Saturday. The Iranian Parliament is also known as the Islamic Consultative Assembly.

According to the report, 61.2 million people are eligible to vote in Iran. On the one hand, parliamentary party leaders will be elected in these elections. On the other hand, an expert in the Assembly will also be elected. The Assembly of Experts is the most powerful body in Iran. It selects the Supreme Leader of the country, the Army Chief or such people. It requires important decisions related to common people, like social freedom, freedom of expression, etc.
