The United States conducted airstrikes in Yemen on Sunday that murdered at least 53, including five women and two children, and another 100 were wounded. The attacks targeted Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and other provinces, including Saada, the rebels' stronghold near the border with Saudi Arabia, a report by the Hill stated.
Meet escalation with Escalation
In response to the attacks, the political bureau of the Houthis has promised to "meet escalation with escalation." They denied that their activities threaten international shipping and renewed their calls for the support of Gaza. The insurgents claimed that they bombarded the USS Harry S Truman carrier strike group with missiles and a drone. But US authorities told news agency Associated Press they were not tracking anything.
Trump declared decisive and powerful military action
And UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement called for "utmost restraint and a stop to all military operations,"warning of the "serious risks" to the dire humanitarian crisis in Yemen, the Arab world's poorest country. The airstrikes came a day after US President Donald Trump declared "decisive and powerful" military action against Houthis for piracy, violence and terrorism against Americans.
US military to take strong and fast military action
"I have today directed the United States Military to take strong and fast Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen. They have been conducting an unceasing campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American and other maritime, air, and drone vessels," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. "The Houthi attack on U.S. vessels will not stand. We will employ crushing force of death until we have realized our goal. The Houthis have shut the shipping through one of the key Waterways of the World, grinding gigantic blocks of Global Commerce to a complete stop, and attacking the principal pillar of Freedom of Navigation on which International Commerce and Trade are based," he said.
