The PM said that Manoj Kumar was an icon of Indian cinema and he will always be remembered for his patriotism. This patriotism of the actor was also visible in his films. The Prime Minister said that 'Manoj ji's films awakened the feeling of national and pride in the people. He will continue to inspire generations to come. He is with the bereaved family and his fans in this hour of grief.'
Manoj Kumar was ill for some time
The actor died in the early hours of Friday at Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital. He was 87 years old. Manoj Kumar's family friend and film producer Ashok Pandit said that Kumar was ill for some time and died at around 3:30 am due to age-related problems.
Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner Kumar received immense love from the public for films like 'Shaheed', 'Upkaar' and 'Purab Aur Paschim'. His fans are very sad to hear the news of the actor's death.
He breathed his last at 4:03 am
According to the medical report, the actor popularly known as 'Bharat Kumar' breathed his last at 4:03 am. The cause of his death was said to be a heart attack. The report also confirmed that Manoj Kumar was suffering from decompensated liver cirrhosis for the last few months. He was admitted to the hospital on February 21, 2025 after his condition deteriorated. The government honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1992 in recognition of his immense contribution to Indian art. He was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
