Bollywood actress and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken views, has once again sparked controversy. This time, she has criticized the new film 'Mrs,'starring Sanya Malhotra, for allegedly promoting a negative view of marriage and Indian joint families. In a series of Instagram Stories, Kangana slammed Bollywood for “distorting the idea of marriages” and “demonising” elderly family members.

Women in my family are the ultimate queens

Kangana passionately defended the traditional Indian household structure, sharing that in her family, women like her grandmother, mother, and aunts hold significant power." Women of the house, dadi, mumma, chachi are our ultimate queens, and we hope to be like them," she wrote. She urged people to stop generalizing joint families as oppressive and compared homemaking to an honorable duty rather than forced labor.

Marriages are not for validation

Taking a dig at new-age feminism and modern relationships, Kangana declared that marriages aren’t about personal validation but about duty. Kangana boldly stated that "marriages are for those who are vulnerable, the elderly and newborns as per the Shastras. Our parents fulfilled their duties without questioning. Women should do their duty and move on, instead of seeking attention,".

Don’t demonise marriage and promote divorce

The 'Emergency' actress further argued that dismantling social institutions like marriage and joint families would weaken Indian society. She urged young people to avoid Western-influenced narratives that encourage divorce, abandonment of parents, and a life without children. "We must be rooted in ancient wisdom to secure our future goals," she asserted.

Outrage and support

Kangana’s comments have triggered a debate online. While some netizens supported her stance on preserving Indian traditions, others criticized her for overlooking women’s struggles in oppressive marriages. Reddit discussions have called out her privilege, with users arguing that not every household empowers women as she claims.

As the controversy unfolds, one thing remains clear Kangana Ranaut never shies away from making headlines with her unfiltered opinions.
