Shabana Azmi spoke about her newly-launched web series Dabba Cartel
Shabana Azmi spoke about her newly-launched web series, Dabba Cartel. While discussing her powerful role, the veteran actress also talked about feminism and gender equality. Weighing in on the issue, Azmi said, "A woman doesn't have the choice to see the world through anything other than a feminine perspective. That's something men and women both need to realize."
Why she chose this role
When asked why she picked this role, the veteran star said that at this point in her career, she doesn't have a checklist but just the urge to play roles that really interest her. Discussing the show, she revealed that for the first two episodes, one doesn't know what her character is doing. Though she appears "nondescript," one can surmise that there's more to her than how she looks.
Society is still very patriarchal
The actress in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also pondered over her childhood and remembered how she was brought up in a commune where women enjoyed equal opportunities. She soon discovered that her upbringing was an exception and not the norm. "Society is still very patriarchal, and women tend to take liberties with them at times," Azmi said. Returning to Dabba Cartel, it depicts the daily life and woes of a bunch of women who operate a traditional lunchbox service. But in some way or another, they become involved in a drug cartel. While they traffic illegal items via their innocuous-looking service, they have to deal with criminals, police, and others. Aside from Azmi, Netflix series Dabba Cartel features Jyotika, Shalini Pandey, Nimisha Sajayan, and Anjali Anand.
