'Why should I reject work?' Akshay Kumar reveals why he never stops working

Entertainment: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who can deliver three to four movies each year, whether the box office results are impressive or not. Though he does not have any blockbuster hit after a long time, he certainly shows no signs of slowing down. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Akshay spoke candidly about his perseverance and shared what he thinks about work and success.
"Keep on working": What Akshay thinks of success
Akshay, citing movies like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, pointed out that "success is actually 70% luck and 30% effort." Describing film industry to be non-predictive at times, he referred to how much maligned films do well commercially and hits get defeated in the theatres when they are highly spoken of. "The only way to chase the elusive success is to keep working," he remarks.
On the criticism of his prolific output, Akshay said, "A lot of people ask me why I do four films a year. Why should I not? If I'm getting work, should I reject it?" He continued, "Things will get better. Do good quality work, give your best, and keep on working."
Akshay also admitted that different actors have varied approaches. "Some like to do one film a year, or even one in a couple of years. Their perspective is also correct. It's all about how you see it," he added.
Akshay Kumar's busy slate of releases
In 2024, he released three major films: Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Ali Abbas Zafar; Sarfira, the Tamil director Sudha Kongara's Bollywood debut; and Mudassar Aziz's comedy Khel Khel Mein.
This year promises even more, with four upcoming releases lined up: Sky Force, an action-packed film by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur; Shankara, a biographical drama helmed by Karan Singh Tyagi; Jolly LLB 3, a courtroom comedy directed by Subhash Kapoor; and Tarun Mansukhani’s highly anticipated comedy Housefull 5.
Looking ahead to 2026
This year, fans will be treated to Akshay in Priyadarshan's horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla and Ahmed Khan's adventure-comedy Welcome to the Jungle.
